Social Ministry Committee

2009 Christmas Basket Project

On behalf of the Social Ministry Committee, I am so pleased to   report that Trinity provided a record 37 Christmas food baskets to local families in need     (30 families identified by the Philo club, who were    pre-screened by the House of Neighborly Service, and 7 Trinity families).  We even had extra frozen turkeys to donate to the Open Door Mission in Fort Collins!

In addition, we again provided gifts of clothing to the 105 children of the Philo families and, for the first time, we included a Bible in the “basket” of 22 families who did not have the Word of God in their home.

 This could not have happened without your monetary donations, or the more than 94 volunteers who spent well over 230 hours preparing paper ornaments; contacting the recipients; preparing cards; donating and  delivering staples, turkeys and hams to the church; picking up canned food donations; sorting and counting the canned food and staples; shopping for perishables; collecting and delivering boxes; shopping for and wrapping the gifts of clothing; assembling, packing and delivering the baskets; and storing and delivering the extra frozen turkeys.

We are also grateful for Thrivent’s $250.00 Congregational fund donation and $514.00 Chapter fund donation; to Agnes and Kim at “OshKosh” children’s clothing store at the Outlet Mall, for the great       discount and assistance in selecting clothing; to Debbie Johnson for      purchasing, organizing and making gift tags for the children’s clothing; and to the Fort Collins Buckaroos Softball Team (Katelyn Aberle’s team) for wrapping the clothing gifts.

Due to your faithfulness, in the midst of their suffering during these    difficult economic times, 196 people (80 adults and 116 children) were able to see the work of God displayed in their lives (see John 9:3-4).

Thank you for shining Jesus’ light in the world – a great way to commemorate His birth!

HOUSE OF NEIGHBORLY SERVICE –

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HNS continues to provide food and other essential items to an increasing number of needy  families in our   community.  Trinity Lutheran        donated 1581 items to HNS during 2009.  Thank you so much for your generous support of this very vital program.  Your help and prayers are very much appreciated by our less fortunate neighbors.  In February we will be collecting pasta, rice, and macaroni & cheese.  However, anything you may wish to contribute is very helpful.
~CROSSROADS  SAFEHOUSE~
 We thank everyone for their donations to Crossroads Safehouse.  This month in addition to the usual need for the Large sized diapers, paper towels & toilet paper a transitional Mom has no clothes for her little girl.  Hand- me-downs in size 3T & 4T would be greatly appreciated. Donations may  be left  in the Crossroads ‘house’ in the narthex. Thank you for your continued support of this deserving outreach ministry.~
SUPER BOWL
 The Social Ministry Committee will, once again, be collecting canned goods for the House of Neighborly Service on Sunday, January 31st and on Super Bowl Sunday, February 7th.  There will be 2 boxes, in the Narthex, decorated with the team logos , of the competing teams in the Super Bowl.  This is always a fun project for the Congregation, while helping the House of Neighborly Service stock their shelves.  Be a part of the competition!  Bring your canned goods on the 31st or the 7th.
